There has been up to a 40 % increase in the pervasiveness of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in UAE through past few years.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease refers to an unusual buildup of fat in the liver of an individual who consumes little or no alcohol. The condition does not only damage the organ but can lead to some serious complications and pain. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasingly, prevalent in every corner of the world. However, due to epidemic levels of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus, 1 in 3 adults in UAE riske fatty liver disease.
In this article, I am going to put light on some common symptoms & causes, of NAFLD and an upcoming Hepatology conferences event in UAE 2018, that practitioners should look for.
Common symptoms
The disease often doesn’t cause outward symptoms but, when signs are present--they generally include:
- Pain in the right side of abdomen
- Enlarged liver
- Jaundice
- Enlargement of blood vessels
- Fatigue
- Swollen belly
Common Causes
The accurate causes of NAFLD are still not clear. Doctors reveal that there is a link between the resistance of insulin hormone & NAFLD. When the muscles & tissues require glucose for the energy, insulin basically helps our cells to absorb glucose from the blood. It also helps liver to grasp excess glucose. When the body gets insulin resistance, cells do not respond to the insulin hormone in the way they should. In this way, several layers of fat start getting deposited in the liver that makes liver to scar. Remember, scarrer your liver would be, the less proper would it be working.
Helpful CME for healthcare practitioners
In an upcoming health care medical event in UAE, to be held on 22nd of February 2019, (organized by Focus Gulf) healthcare experts will be discussing emerging challenges & cutting-edge solutions to this emerging issue in UAE. If you’re a liver-specialist, sign up for the event & get a chance to collaborate with high-level field maven through and interactive session.
